Trail RunDistance: 6.00 miles
Pace: 10:16 m/mi
Comments: It's been a tough week. I slept a solid 12 hours after Thursday's run and wasn't too peppy yesterday either. Still, this pretty much fits my past pattern. As I start doing quality runs I'll feel worse and worse and worse and then POOF! my body will catch up. I'm really hoping that happens soon, though.
So I hit the trail today with hopes of seeing a bit of progress and while I don't seem to have turned the conditioning corner quite yet, it was a very solid and satisfactory effort.
I started about an hour later than last time and that's probably not the best idea given the number of folks that are on the trail by that time. The crowd can be a bit of a hassle but it's the idiots who refuse to put their dogs on the leash that really piss me off. The leash law doesn't mean just have one, assholes.
As I expected, I struggled a bit on the ascent but felt the consistency of the effort was a lot better. I also had a lot more in the tank for the downhill effort this time as well. Timewise I finished the six miles about 1:20 faster than the last time out, which is a reasonable improvement for now I think.
After the run I treated myself to the first ice bath of the year. I considered doing one last time I did the South Mountain trails but didn't and really paid for it the next day. My quads have been pretty sore with all the speed work as well so I figured it would be a good time to let the cold do its magic. It was about as excruciating as I remembered.
